“In a difficult arena like this it is a great result and the way we achieved it, after beating Inter, shows we are growing. It bodes well.
“We defended well and also pushed forward with good attacking football. We tried to compete in terms of possession with Fiorentina, which is their greatest strength.
“Europe? We need more time, but there are sides better equipped and with more points. We need to secure safety and then see where we are. The important thing is that the team is improving its performances.”
There were two soft penalties, one for each side, while Alberto Aquilani had a goal incorrectly ruled offside and Luca Antonini appeared to be offside when he scored.
“Looking at the footage, it’s very difficult for the goalkeeper and the referee, as we’ve seen some controversial penalties this weekend. From one angle it looked like a penalty, but from the other I probably wouldn’t have given it.
“On the other penalty, Massimo Ambrosini was smart and as soon as he felt the touch, he went down. So was Antonelli? Fair enough.”
Paolo De Ceglie is rediscovering his form at Genoa after his loan move from Juventus.
“He had a very good game, but barely played this season, so he felt a little tired towards the end. He was important in supporting Alberto Gilardino and Moussa Konate as well as covering midfield.
“We need to be solid and able to interpret the games differently, especially against quality sides like Fiorentina. It’s good to be adaptable and versatile in tactics and shapes.
“There is another week left in the transfer window and we’ll see what happens. The 3-4-3 remains the basic approach, but we can adapt.”
