Gian Piero Gasperini concedes Atalanta have “a bitter taste in the mouth” after their 3-3 draw with Roma, as they were leading 3-1.
It’s remarkable the Orobici were leading 3-1 when they rested stars such as Papu Gomez, Marten De Roon and Remo Freuler, with Josip Ilicic injured.
Their focus was on Thursday’s Europa League play-off with FC Kobenhavn in Copenhagen.

“We have many great players and they put in a great performance. Although 3-3 at Roma is a good result, it leaves a bitter taste in the mouth, because we had a genuine chance to win it,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.
“When Roma changed and we struggled to readjust, we opened up some central gaps, for example Alessandro Florenzi’s goal, and that gave them hope of the comeback.
“Roma can also throw amazing players on off the bench. Unfortunately, we had to make other changes and couldn’t introduce Papu, who would’ve thrived in the spaces left open in the final minutes.
“Marten De Roon has strong physicality and I needed him to counter Steven Nzonzi. It was the first match of the season for some of them and they couldn’t handle 90 minutes, so my substitutions were necessary.
“Duvan Zapata, Emiliano Rigoni and Mario Pasalic caused Roma huge problems in the first half. Rigoni has pace and versatility to play in various different roles.
“My style of football isn’t really all that complicated, but perhaps the simple things are often the most effective.
“I continue to say getting into the Europa League is fundamental for our season and we want to achieve this for our fans, who follow us everywhere.”
