Rudi Garcia praised Roma’s maturity, versatility and Francesco Totti as “one of the best players in the history of football.”
The Giallorossi flattened Inter 3-0 at San Siro this evening, their seventh consecutive victory with 20 goals scored and just one conceded.
“It was a great game, we knew that before we played it. I liked the collective spirit of the team, but we also played with heart when needed and played like men tonight,” he told Sky Sport Italia.
Garcia still won’t be drawn on whether Roma can be considered Scudetto contenders, even after starting with seven straight wins.
“How long to the end of the season? It’s too much. Winning here is always difficult and I like what the team does.
“The side has confidence, the players believe in themselves and that is very important. We did things a bit differently on the counter-attacks and it worked well. It’s just a pity in the second half we didn’t have more of the ball, but 3-0 at the break was already a good position to be in.
“We normally have more of the possession, but we knew Inter had strong individuals and left a few spaces open that we could take advantage of. Therefore we decided to hit them on the break and run quickly into those spaces. This is a versatile team and I think it’s a strength to have different options.
“The team also showed mental strength in the second half and that was important, seeing a side that never gives up. I liked it and that will be important for the future.”
Totti bagged a brace and is on sparkling form, so should Cesare Prandelli call him for the 2014 World Cup?
“We have a leader in attack who also wears the captain’s armband and he showed the way. I am only the Roma Coach, so I cannot advise Prandelli.
“Totti is one of the best players in the history of football and to see him so happy is wonderful.”
Garcia was also asked about his sister’s interview, suggesting he used to organise his players tactically on the Subbuteo board when he was only 10 years old.
“I don’t remember that…”
