Rudi Garcia rued wasted chances at San Siro after Roma’s 2-2 draw and joked about their match with Juventus.
“We had so many scoring opportunities and usually win in these circumstances, but a point against Milan at San Siro is not a negative thing,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.
“In terms of football I have to be disappointed, as when we are in front twice we’ve got to avoid certain mistakes in defence. It was a good Roma performance overall.
“It’s true that we could’ve done better on the final pass, but we played to win and that is what I want from my team. We scored two goals away to Milan and are normally much more efficient in defence.”
It was the first time since March that the Giallorossi have conceded more than one goal in a single game.
“Today we were weaker at the back than usual, but that’s because Milan have such strong forwards. Now we must remain concentrated and can’t do anything except win the next game with Catania.
“Above all in the second half Milan had a strong spell and our high pressing wasn’t working. I still think it was possible to do better here, but as I said it is a good point away from home.”
Francesco Totti made his comeback after two months, while Mattia Destro scored his second goal in as many games.
“We knew the captain didn’t have a full game in his legs and neither did Destro, so I decided to split it between them. It’s really great news the captain has returned, as with him we are even stronger.
“We can still push forward, but now we must win at home. We know the only team that got through the Champions League was Milan and they couldn’t do that with a bad squad. We can do better in attack and when converting our many scoring opportunities.”
Now Roma are five points adrift of Serie A leaders Juventus – who they face in Turin after the Christmas break – and only three clear of Napoli.
“I don’t look forward to Juventus, nor behind to Napoli. I like looking at the table more when we win every game,” smiled Garcia.
“What counts now is to have a great game at home and after the break we have all the time to think about an away match. I forget where….”
Roma remain unbeaten and that is a remarkable achievement after 16 rounds in Garcia’s debut Serie A season.
“We know that we can hold possession in every arena, as that is our style. We are capable of going on the counter-attack too, but I like to see the team do both.
“It’s a good sign that Milan sat back and allowed Roma the initiative at San Siro, as it shows they were worried and respected us. That should give even more belief to my players.
“We have been playing for five months and haven’t lost a game, so that has to mean physically the team is in good shape.”
