“The intensity of the last 20 minutes against Juventus, the whole game in Rotterdam and the first half with Verona. These are the positives we must build on tomorrow,” said Garcia in his Press conference.

“We have an idea on what Chievo will do, but of course the match could go differently. We worked on different options and it’s more an issue of attitude than individual players.
“I am relaxed, motivated and have confidence in my players. We are going to Verona in order to win. The path we follow gives us more experience and the opportunity to do better in future.”
Garcia was asked why Roma spent money on Seydou Doumbia rather than sign Mohamed Salah from Chelsea, especially now he’s doing such spectacular work at Fiorentina.
“We chose Doumbia and Victor Ibarbo. We had chosen to replace Mattia Destro with a versatile player who can work in three different roles. We knew the African Cup of Nations was on and he now needs time to reach 100 per cent fitness.
“Gervinho proved he can help the team, while Francesco Totti played more this season because we had more games and fewer strikers available, such as Iturbe’s injury.”
The Scudetto race remains in Juve’s hands after their 1-1 draw at the Olimpico, retaining a nine-point lead at the top of the table.
“Juve’s destiny is in their hands and if they win every game then there’s nothing we can do,” confessed Garcia.
“At most we can defend second place, starting from Sunday’s game. There are many points still to be distributed before the end of the season, but we are not afraid of those in front or those behind us.
“We must have the right attitude over the next three months. We want to give our all in Serie A and get through this round of the Europa League too.”
The Coach was asked about the apparent problems Roma have raising the tempo at the moment, keeping largely sterile possession.
“Logically, if we have 70 per cent possession then our opponents’ chances of scoring are reduced. As long as we defend well, it can be fine, but we must use possession to create spaces and make the most of quick runs.”
