“I am satisfied with our campaign so far,” Garcia told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Roma are a big club, but never had consistency. I won’t be crying that we don’t have Messi or Ronaldo, but I do hope next season we can improve the squad. Budget isn’t everything, just look at Atletico Madrid.”
Gervinho and Seydou Keita are away on Africa Cup of Nations duty, but Garcia assured there’s no need to sign replacements. “I knew about the tournament already. Mattia Destro? He will stay.
“I believe we are on the right track and I want at least one trophy this season. I am ambitious and often surpass expectations, although the Champions League has robbed us of energy this term.”
Silverware would be a fine way to crown Totti’s career, as the captain is still going strong at the age of 38.
“I cannot ask Francesco for 15 goals per season, but until he stops running I won’t ask myself questions about what Roma will look like without him.
“I only hope his exit is worthy of his talent: let us win this year and the next so he can retire the way he deserves to. In my entire career I have never had a player with such talent and such experience.”
