Roma were given a scare in Week 37 as they closed-in on second place, just about coming out on top at Chievo.

The Giallorossi still had very slim hopes of winning the title, having beaten Juventus at the Olimpico in the previous round of games.

They had Edin Dzeko back from injury and Kevin Strootman returned from a two-match suspension, though Radja Nainggolan missed out with a calf problem.

However, the Flying Donkeys took an early lead when Lucas Castro got in front of Antonio Rudiger and converted Roberto Inglese’s knockdown.

However, the Flying Donkeys took an early lead when Lucas Castro got in front of Antonio Rudiger and converted Roberto Inglese’s knockdown.

They almost made it 2-0, but Valter Birsa’s driven shot fizzed just wide after another Inglese assist.

Stephan El Shaarawy grabbed an equaliser, after the offside Edin Dzeko cleverly decided not to touch Federico Fazio’s knockdown and the winger took full advantage.

Eight minutes later though, Chievo put themselves back in front and put the visitors’ Champions League hopes under threat.

Birsa sent in a cross from the left, and Inglese was totally unmarked at the back post to put his side 2-1 up.

With just three minutes to go before the break, Mohamed Salah put the Lupi back on terms, his left-footed effort taking a deflection to beat Stefano Sorrentino.

Castro and Gamberini both went off injured for the hosts, and the Giallorossi took full advantage of the enforced substitutions.

Strootman knocked a ball over the top for El Shaarawy, and the Italian international took a moment to steady himself before knocking it past Sorrentino.

Salah then secured a brace of his own, the Egyptian finding the corner with a precise strike after Edin Dzeko’s assist.

Dzeko himself got in on the act on 83 minutes, firing a sublime strike into the top corner and leaving the Chievo goalkeeper with no chance.

The scoring wasn’t over though, as Inglese was once again allowed a free header to grab his second of the game.
