Former Milan CEO Adriano Galliani has claimed that if Financial Fair Play was around in 1986, the club would not have won five Champions Leagues.
Silvio Berlusconi bought Milan in February 1986 and bankrolled its rise from bankruptcy to world dominance, but problems with FFP – which continue to this day – forced the media magnate to sell up two years ago.
“When I see the European Cup, the many beautiful years we had, five victories and eight Finals and come to mind,” Galliani told Sky Sport Italia.

“The European Cup anthem was the music of Milan. They were good memories and I miss them, absolutely.
“As it is now, FFP doesn’t work, it must be changed. If it was around in 1986, the Milan fans couldn’t have had the joys they experienced.
“Football entrepreneurs back then invested out of their own pockets. Now, however, you can only spend what you bring in and the same teams win every year.
“I can’t understand why a new owner who wants to invest can’t do it because of these restrictions.”
The 74-year-old was then asked how he felt about Elliott Management’s running of the Rossoneri.
“They’re very strong, with an excellent President and an excellent CEO,” he replied.
“I hope to see Milan in the Final of the Coppa Italia. I’m just a fan nowadays. I swore that I wouldn’t talk about Milan anymore after I left the club.
“It takes good taste to not comment on other people’s business and I leave comments to others.”
