“The president came for dinner and said he wanted to meet Gabriel so that he could persuade him [to join them]. The new owners told me that they want to do with Inter what has already been done with Manchester City and Chelsea.
“Their project is marvellous and Gabriel will be one of its great protagonists. He wants to turn Inter into the greatest team in Europe.
“They signed Joao Mario for €45m and Gabriel is the second name they turned to. Frank De Boer himself looked up the player and wanted to speak with him. The Coach was an important factor in our decision.
“He asked Gabigol about the way he prefers to play, so he could favour his integration into the team.”
