The City of Florence have announced the renovation project for the Stadio Artemio Franchi, Fiorentina’s home stadium.
As reported by Goal, a six-month process took place involving a commission of nine members of international standing and multidisciplinary expertise, assisted by officials from the City of Florence, to decide upon which renovation project to pursue.
The winning project was awarded to Arup Italia and group leader Hirsh David, who beat off competition from seven other participants. 31 projects were initially submitted and the commission selected the best eight, with the final decision being made last week.
The Stadio Artemio Franchi renovations, entrusted to Arup Italia, should be completed by 2026, upgrading Fiorentina’s home and modernising it significantly.
It is likely that many Italian stadiums will be renovated or receive modernisation work in the coming years as Italy look to host another international tournament. The last major tournament hosted in the Italian peninsula was the 1990 World Cup, as well as a few Euro 2020 games last summer.

You can tell how much they had to cut out to this project approved, still looks like a stadium that would be in the bottom of the pile in england or spain. Catastrophy. Best beleive, the completion of 2026 wont be acheived
We’ll see.
This is Italy, so expect it finished around 2046.
That looks disgusting. Why oh why did they not go with the mecifir plans, that was a beautiful design.
What does comisso have to say about this I wonder
Twitter has some of the losing 7 designs, the copper roof design is Bella
…but they went for this
A stadium in much need of a renewal. Huge curved running area that keeps the fans 20 metres from the pitch. Mind you, the way they behave, maybe that is a blessing.
New design looks okay, but there is no roof around the area with the famous tower, so everyone sitting there gets sun/rain
Eh, I dont like it, it looks like this project is very important for Nardella for political reasons, but I still dont understand why spend public money on it when you could have just allowed Rocco to invest private money and build a new and better stadium. Also, Fiorentina will be forced to play somewhere else for 3 or 4 years (at best, lets face it, its Italy and it wont be ready by 2025) losing revenue.
Unless they change it’s name to Stadio Batigol-Nintendo then who cares? Forza Milan!
(In jest btw, Fio deserve some good fortune!)
Certainly not the prettiest and they can do much, much better. But still an improvment i guess. Scratching my head at why the entire stadium cannot be covered by the roof?
