Tim Sherwood, a former coach for Tottenham and Aston Villa, has urged Manchester United to hire Roberto De Zerbi next season.

Italian coach De Zerbi has emerged as a solid candidate for at least three top clubs next summer: Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Barcelona, but according to Sherwood a former English midfielder and ex-coach of Tottenham and Aston Villa, Manchester United should also be looking at the ex-Sassuolo boss.

“De Zerbi is one of my favourite managers,” the 55-year-old told TalkSport as quoted by OneFootball.

“He looks like he can be an absolute nuisance.

“That’s the biggest compliment I can give him because De Zerbi looks like he could drive me potty. He would want this and he would want that. That’s why people would be scared of him. But I think he is top draw.

“The style of play and the structure. Brighton are brilliant. It won’t mind them, they will just get the next one in, like they do with their players.

“I think the state with Man United, at the moment, I don’t see ten Hag staying, I really don’t. I think De Zerbi would be an absolute dream manager for them.”

De Zerbi was appointed by Brighton to replace Graham Potter in September 2022 and led the Seagulls to their first-ever qualification for a European competition last season.

Next week, De Zerbi will meet his friend Daniele De Rossi on the touchline for a Europa League Round of 16 first leg at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

Despite rumours linking De Zerbi with a move away from Brighton in the summer, club director Paul Barber has said he’s confident the Italian tactician will remain in charge of the team in 2024-25.
