The home-grown talent spoke to the AS Roma Match Program ahead of Monday night’s Serie A game with Bologna.
He’s fresh from scoring in the 4-1 victory over arch rivals Lazio, his first Derby della Capitale goal and all while wearing the armband.
“Being captain in the derby is just like any other game, that armband pushes you on to give more. You feel that you have to transmit to your teammates the feeling of belonging to this club and squad.
“I learned practically everything I know from two great captains, Francesco Totti and Daniele De Rossi.”
De Rossi also said recently that he believes Florenzi will soon become one of the best right-backs in the world, even if he’s only been playing in that position for a year and a half.
“I thank Daniele and his words make me proud. He said the same thing to me a long time before making these comments publicly. I have to work hard and be ready every time I’m called upon.
“I am certainly more at ease in that role now, having played many games there with the teaching of Coaches Rudi Garcia and Luciano Spalletti. I need to improve on those little lapses I still have.”
Despite playing at right-back nowadays, the former midfielder still has an excellent eye for goal, including the amazing effort from midfield against Barcelona.
“It is easier to score a stunning goal if you don’t fear getting it wrong. It can happen that every now and then your shot goes into the clouds, but if you never try… It’s the only way to score goals you couldn’t even imagine.
“When you hit the ball just right, you can hear it makes a different sound. Mind you, many times you hit it just right and it’s straight at the goalkeeper, on other occasions you scuff it and the ball goes into the top corner.
“So at times you need to miskick in order to score stunners!”
