“We made the squad more Italian, we lowered our average age,” he said at a Press conference.
“Our objective is to remain within our wage budget. [Maintaining the] quality and youthfulness of our squad, making our environment more Italian and laying the foundations for European football were our aims.
“From September, we’ll also have a new head of scouting, who will help us in the pursuit of our objectives. It’ll be [former Fiorentina defender] Gianluca Comotto.
“Sportiello, Astori, Chiesa, Badelj and Babacar all wanted to stay at Fiorentina, and from these bases, we started to build a new group. We’ve strengthened ourselves.
“In the transfer window, we considered something important, that was to target certain countries rather than others.
“Our choices stemmed from analysis, which came from scouting, and our attentions turned to Portugal and France. We moved towards the west.
“Fiorentina haven’t lost their appeal, it’s the Italian market that has perhaps lost theirs to the Premier League, La Liga or the Bundesliga.”
