Fiorentina won their Serie A opener, but promised a new striker: is it Dimitar Berbatov, Nicklas Bendtner or Marco Borriello?
President Andrea Della Valle was in the stands and afterwards pledged to bring in a new hitman before the transfer session expires. “His name could start with a B…”
According to the latest reports from Italy, it’s down to a short-list of three potential candidates.
Berbatov has already been heavily linked with Fiorentina in recent weeks, although the veteran Bulgarian international could be delayed by a gash to the thigh that will keep Wayne Rooney out for a month.
Manchester United were willing to let him go for just £3m, as Berbatov has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford.
Another alternative also comes from the Premier League, as Danish forward Bendtner is not part of Arsenal’s plans.
It’s not the first time he has been mentioned in the Italian papers, as Bendtner was also thought to be a target for Milan.
The third emergency option is Borriello, who has been frozen out by Zdenek Zeman at Roma after a loan spell with Juventus.
Fiorentina face competition for Borriello, as the unsettled centre-forward has also been linked with Inter and Milan.
