The father of Juventus midfielder Nicolo Fagioli has insisted that agents should do better to help their players understand their commitments and contractual obligations after news broke that his son is involved in a growing betting scandal surrounding Italian football .

Fagioli was the first player to be named by gossip columnist Fabrizio Corona shaving bet on illegal online platforms, which he has since reportedly admitted to, although he insists that he has not bet on matches involving his current or former clubs.

Italy internationals Nicolo Zaniolo and Sandro Tonali have also been named in allegations, as has Roma youngster Nicola Zalewski.

Fagioli’s father, Marco, recently gave an interview to La Repubblica, during which he explained that agents should do more to help their clients if they are to justify the salaries they earn.

Speaking about his son specifically, Fagioli was not willing to go into too many specifics. “I won’t say anything about what my son is supposed to have done, this is not the time. A lot of what I read about him isn’t true, but if I tried to explain it, no one would listen to me right now.

“Something has been bothering him, but I didn’t imagine it would be something like this. We are close to our son, as we always have been.”

Then, Fagioli went on to explain that players need more help to understand their commitments away from the pitch.

“Clubs and parents cannot always be behind the players 100% of the time, it would be useful for the agents to warn them, they should follow them and advise them.

“They should help them understand what commitments they are making when they sign a contract. That way, they would justify the money they earn.”

  1. Agents have nothing to do with players’ behavior, mister. All come to back to the players themselves. Or maybe, players (Fagioli in this case) need to hire personal babysitter.
