There have been reports in Italy and England over the past few days of a bidding war for the centre-back.

Arsenal and Chelsea were the main contenders to Everton, but now Bayern Munich have also joined the race.

According to Sportitalia, Everton are determined to blow all other options out of the water by proposing almost €50m (around £41m).

It’s a huge sum for the Senegal international, who turned 25 last month and is under contract with Napoli until June 2019.

The Partenopei signed Koulibaly from KRC Genk for just €7.75m in July 2014.

Everton can raise these funds thanks to their rich new owners and the imminent sale of John Stones to Manchester City for £50m.

If Napoli do sell K2, then they’ll likely turn back to Torino defender Nikola Maksimovic.
