Empoli President Fabrizio Corsi slammed Riccardo Saponara for an “unjustifiable” ban. “He has to realise he’s not playing for Milan now.”
The trequartista is sitting out a three-match Serie A ban after he was sent off for insulting the referee.
“Saponara chose to be a protagonist with us, but he did something unjustifiable,” Corsi told Rete Sport.
“There were pointless protests against Atalanta too. He has to mature and realise he’s not playing for Milan now, where some things are allowed more.

“Saponara is too important for us and everything goes through him. He is proving to be a great player. I’d say he and Lorenzo Insigne are the most influential Italian players so far this season.
“We are also happy that we were able to keep Lorenzo Tonelli and Mario Rui.”
Coach Maurizio Sarri is finding success at Napoli, but Marco Giampaolo is so far struggling in his place.
“Giampaolo arrived with great passion and capability, so the same general approach as Sarri. Don’t forget at the start it was tough for Sarri here, just as it was for him at Napoli.
“I am cheering him on and some of the lads we had with us last season. Curiously, Diego Maradona’s criticism actually unblocked something for Sarri and he’s been flying ever since.”
