Edin Dzeko admits ‘I think last season can’t be repeated’ as ‘I’d have laughed’ if he was told Roma would reach the Champions League semi-finals.
Dzeko played a key role in Roma’s unlikely run to the final four last season, and the striker looked back on a year that he described in five words.
“Fight, desire, will, happiness and sadness: that’s how I describe my 2018,” he told Nezavisne.

“Fight, desire, will, happiness and sadness: that’s how I describe my 2018,” he told Nezavisne.
“I’ve always given the best of myself and I’ll do so until I stop playing. If I was told that we’d have played in the Champions League semi-finals, I would’ve laughed.
“However, we slowly took confidence and began to believe in our chances. It was one of the best seasons in Roma’s history and my best in the Champions League.
“Maybe that goal at Chelsea was the most beautiful of my career, but after all that I was sad because I was convinced that we could play in the Final.
“We’ll try to do something similar, although I think last season can’t be repeated.
“Everything was extraordinary, especially those fantastic games against Barcelona and Liverpool, which were uncertain until the end.
“Scoring is my job and I’m happy to have written my name into the history of a club like Roma, who have had great strikers, in such a short space of time.
“However, that’s an incentive for me to give even more in the future. The fans’ expectations are huge, but so are mine.”
