Paulo Dybala called his debut season with Roma ‘an incredible year in every sense’ and highlighted his ambitions to win this campaign.

The 29-year-old Argentine forward joined the club on a free transfer last year and immediately made a strong impact in Jose Mourinho’s squad, being a key attacking threat across the year.

In his first season with Roma, Dybala scoring 18 goals and provided eight assists across all competitions, instantly becoming the star of the squad in the Italian capital.

Speaking at a Roma event in Eur via Pagine Romaniste, Dybala first reflected on his debut season with the Giallorossi.

“Thank you on behalf of myself and the team for the support every year. It’s fundamental for us. After such an important year for me, to have received all this affection was an incredible support because I didn’t expect it.

“I knew you very little but you immediately made me feel at home and this allows me to perform better on the pitch. I tried to give you, throughout the year, something back of everything you gave me. We were close to celebrating but it was an incredible year for me in every sense.”

He spoke about his love for the city of Rome.

“I have always been in love with Rome since I was a child. I was very far away, I didn’t know it but from what I saw I loved it.

“It is one of my favourite cities in the world, both my family and I are comfortable here, I try to enjoy it as much as I can by walking and touring around it and I hope to enjoy it some more.”

Finally, Dybala discussed his expectations for the 2023-24 season and his ambitions with Roma.

“It will be a very long season with many games. I hope to arrive in March with the possibility to compete for all the competitions we have. That is our goal, we have a strong team.

“Important players have arrived and I think we have to continue and improve on the way we did last year. Unfortunately we lacked a little, but the spirit has to be this, to always give something extra, both in training and during the games.

“We didn’t start well but I’ve been in worse situations and then things went well. I hope they can go that way this time too.”

Roma haven’t impressed in the early weeks of the new season, picking up just one point from their first three outings, drawing with Salernitana and losing to Hellas Verona and Milan.
