Doni was one of 17 people arrested on Monday on the allegation of involvement in an illegal betting network alleged to have been masterminded by criminal organisations in Singapore.
Several reports in Italy are indicating on Friday evening that Doni is believed to have admitted to a number of the allegations made against him. This follows a lengthy meeting with his lawyer, investigating officers and an Italian court judge.
Media coverage of the day’s events had Doni described by those allowed to visit him as ‘confused and tired, not knowing how to react to the situation’, whilst a statement reported back to La Gazzetta dello Sport had his lawyer’s closing statement confirm that the player had today offered “a full confession, admitting to some charges and giving reliable indications of others.”
The 38-year-old has also reportedly looked to exonerate his club Atalanta” data-scaytid=”20″>Atalanta of any involvement or knowledge of the scam that is alleged to have attempted to affect the outcome of a number of 2009-10 and 2010-11 matches in Serie B and a few Serie A fixtures from last season.
Doni is already serving a three-and-a-half-year ban as punishment for his involvement in another betting scandal that emerged in Italy back in the summer.
