Bologna boss Stefano Pioli is not surprised by Alessandro Diamanti’s inclusion in Italy’s initial 32-man Euro 2012 squad.
The attacking midfielder was selected on Sunday night and now has the chance to stake his claim for a spot in Cesare Prandelli’s final 23.
“Diamanti deserved this recognition,” noted Pioli after the 1-0 loss at Parma on Sunday evening. “He’s a great player who did well to put himself at the disposal of his teammates at this club this term.”
The 29-year-old was given his one and only cap at international level, by Prandelli, in the 1-1 draw with Romania back in November 2010.
Diamanti scored seven goals in 30 games this term.
