“It was made easier by the two early goals and the lads continued to push looking for more, especially as we could need goal difference in this group,” Di Biagio told Rai Sport.

“I’d say the lads tried to finish the game and it was tough when Lithuania continued to just sit back and defend even when 2-0 down.
“They were two incredible goals and the kind we’ve come to expect from these players.”
Serbia were joint top with Italy, but lost 2-0 in Slovenia today, so the Azzurrini go clear.
“Serbia’s defeat is an important result, but the lads must remember that our future depends only on us. We are top of the group and therefore we control our destiny without looking elsewhere.”
Italy now have 13 points from five games, followed by Slovenia with 12 points from six matches and Serbia 10 points from five fixtures.
“Regardless of what will happen at club level and how much playing time they get, we must continue visiting everyone and seeing who can play for this team.”
