Gigi Del Neri can’t help but regret a dire first half after Genoa lost the Derby della Lanterna for their worst run in 20 years.
The 3-1 defeat to Sampdoria means they have now lost six on the bounce – including all five games since Del Neri replaced Gigi De Canio.
“The first half was just gifted to our opponents, as we played so badly. After the break we improved, also thanks to the introduction of Juan Manuel Vargas and Andrea Bertolacci.
“Perhaps after getting back to 2-1 we should’ve had a little more strength to find the draw. We’ve got to change attitude.
“After five defeats I can’t expect not to be criticised, but I hope at least it’s constructive,” continued the former Sampdoria Coach.
“If we continue with this attitude, then there’s little we can do. The club and I knew this was a difficult moment, but there’s a long season ahead of us and many teams within reach.”
Genoa are now propping up the table with just nine points from 13 games, overtaken even by a Siena side with a six-point penalty.
