The 3-1 result at the Stadio Barbera was Udinese’s second Serie A win on the bounce, propelling them up the standings.

“I found the right atmosphere to do well here, a solid club that puts you in the right conditions to do your best work. Today I saw players on the bench who were happy and really celebrating the result. That for me was worth more than the victory.”

The star of the night was undoubtedly former Manchester City midfielder Fofana, who scored two wonderful curlers.

“He has great pace and is very young. He reminds me of Moussa Sissoko, but with greater technique and can be very consistent.

“I certainly didn’t teach him how to score goals. It is in his DNA to go forward and attack. The fact he scored a goal like that at the 80th minute means he’s got remarkable physical fitness and always stays sharp.

“Tonight Palermo were covered quite well on the flanks and we did not allow them to move through the centre.”
