“I was about to say goodbye to football at a very young age, but Cesena gave me back my desire to play football,” Defrel revealed in an interview with il Resto del Carlino.

“I had just come back from a year at Foggia which didn’t go well. I was morally destroyed, I even thought about giving up.

“I gave to Cesena with Nicola Campedelli, then Pierpaolo Bisoli took over as Coach and gave me the keys to the attack.

“As a child in France I trained once a week and then I played on a Sunday for my neighbourhood team. I never thought I’d be a footballer.

“I always stayed in my neighbourhood, I didn’t want to leave. Then they called me for a three-day trial at Parma and I didn’t go. The first three years in Italy weren’t easy.”
