However, De Zerbi, speaking in his press conference following the game, was quick to defend his young 'keeper, who was making only the second start of his career.

“Turati played because Andrea Consigli and Gianluca Pegolo weren’t well. What should I do? Who could’ve expected this? I didn’t see many big mistakes from him.
“Football can exalt you and then annihilate you in just a few days. I believe he had a good game again today. Beyond the mistake for the goal, I have nothing to reproach.
“If I could have, I would have kept him close to me to protect him.”
Sassuolo dominated the match and also missed a penalty through Domenico Berardi.
“In cases like this we say it’s a lack of ruthlessness. We always try to find a justification, but there isn’t today. We gave away our first shot on goal in the 90th minute from Daniele Ragatzu because the first goal from Joao Pedro was not a shot.
“They defended very well, they have a determination that I wish we always had. We created a lot of chances, and missed a penalty. I don’t know how to justify this, but this is football, it’s why it’s beautiful.”
Sassuolo lie 14th in the Serie A table and have only won once in their last five games.
