“We feel regret at the defeat to Roma, certainly, but sometimes it’s good to carry that fire into the next game,” said De Leo after Sunday’s last-gasp 2-1 home loss.
“Other than the winner in stoppages, the team showed a courageous reaction and we go to Genoa feeling confident in our capabilities.
“Genoa had some setbacks too recently, but this is a solid team with important reinforcements this summer. Aurelio Andreazzoli is a fine Coach who always seeks beautiful football. They are a dangerous opponent, cover spaces well and are organised.”
Bologna suffered their first defeat since Mihajlovic was diagnosed with leukaemia and he has been keeping up to date with his staff via videolink while he undergoes chemotherapy.
“The Coach always asks us to have a determined approach, to believe in our strategy, play with a certain level of cockiness. We saw situations against Roma in the first half that suggested we were timid, remissive and stretched out. We pressed higher after the break and created several scoring opportunities.”
Mitchell Dijks went off injured during the defeat to Roma and there are options to replace him in defence.
“We’ll be without Dijks for a while. We’re counting on having Danilo back for Sunday. Ibrahima Mbaye showed last season he was reliable, while we’ve got Ladislav Krejci as another option.”
