When putting it together, the Lega Serie A took into account Champions League and Europa League competitions so as not to have these sides facing off right before or after a midweek test.
“I think it went well and they eliminated some of the previous problems that had caused diatribes between clubs,” De Laurentiis told reporters.
“We don’t yet know who we are facing in Europe, but at least some logic was applied to the principles of the draw. It’s a pity that in Italy it takes 20 years to achieve something perfectly rational…”
Napoli open their Serie A season away to Parma on the weekend of September 19-20, then host Genoa and visit Juventus in Week 3 on October 4.
“Juve won’t be happy to be facing us that early either. There’s no reason to keep talking about Juventus as if they are some sacred symbol that cannot be beaten,” shrugged De Laurentiis.
“We’ve beaten them several times, including in the Coppa Italia Final, so it’ll be a fine way to start the season.”
