Nigel De Jong is confident Milan can “have a great comeback” this season with Keisuke Honda and new Coach Clarence Seedorf.

The Rossoneri reached the midway stage of the campaign in 11th place with just 22 points from 19 games, results that prompted the dismissal of Massimiliano Allegri.

“We will try to climb back up the standings and return to the European places,” midfielder De Jong told atopmercato.com.

“Against Sassuolo we played an excellent opening 20 minutes, perhaps our best of the whole season. We scored twice and I thought at that point the result would be a formality. Instead, we lost 4-3.

“This has not been a good start to the campaign, but I am convinced we’ll have a great comeback and be back in the top spots within a few weeks. Our treatment room is slowly emptying out and the squad is almost complete.

“We have the elements and the talent to have a great second half to the season.”

The side has also been reinforced by January arrivals Honda and Adil Rami.

“I knew Honda thanks to his time in Holland, where he played for VVV-Venlo for two seasons. He is an excellent player with a superb left foot. I think he’ll bring us a great deal from set plays, but also in moving the ball around.

“As for Rami, he is a very solid defender. I didn’t know him before his arrival, but I am getting to know how physical and interesting he is in the air.”
