Dalic was speaking as he received the Gianni Brera award following a memorable 2018, during which he guided Croatia to the World Cup final in Russia last summer.

However, he has now suggested that he would like to coach in Italy in a possible return to management at club level.

“I have to say thank you to my players, we’re a small country but a proud one, and receiving such an award is important not only for me but for all the players in Croatia,” he said in his speech. “My dream is to train here in Italy.”

Meanwhile, Marotta lauded Dalic for his achievements with the Croatian national team, at a time when current Inter Coach Luciano Spalletti is under growing pressure following a poor run of form.

“Dalic is deserving of the award,” he said. “He became Croatia Coach in an emergency situation and has proven to be one of the best emerging Coaches in the world.”

Inter have taken just one point in their last three Serie A games against Sassuolo, Torino and Bologna, with Spalletti undoubtedly eager for a positive response against Parma this weekend.
