The number of current active cases fell by 824 to 23,101, with 168 in intensive care (+5), 2,867 hospitalised (-246) and 20,066 self-isolating at home with minor symptoms (-583).
A concerning statistic is that for the first time after 75 consecutive days of falling numbers, there was an increase in patients in ICU, with five going in to raise the total to 168.
Lombardy remains the statistical outlier, representing half of all the cases and deaths since the pandemic began on February 20.

The other region struggling to get COVID-19 under control is Piedmont, as over the last 24 hours there were six deaths and 31 new positive tests.
There were 32 new cases in Emilia-Romagna too, but every other region had 10 or under new positive tests over the last 24 hours.
