The centre-back is in talks to renew with the Viola, with his current contract set to expire at the end of the season.
However, negotiations hit a stumbling block this week when Rodriguez’s agent revealed that the Tuscan club had refused to budge from their opening offer.
“It’s a negotiation,” Corvino said, presenting his book at University of Novoli.
“When you sit round the table to negotiate, it means that one side wants the person to stay and that the person wants to stay.
“Then the negotiating makes clear how much they want to stay and vice-versa, because we want to keep him.
“You can’t just find an agreement straight away, above all when one side says they want a fixed amount.
“When you elect a Pope, you’re electing an important person, and those who elect him – the cardinals – are just as important. It’s hard to get a Pope on the second smoke from the conclave.
“A negotiation takes time.”
