Frosinone knocked Torino out of the Coppa Italia in extra time with goals from Arijon Ibrahimovic and Reinier, around a David Zima temporary equaliser, and will face Napoli in the Round of 32.
It took just five minutes for 17-year-old Arijon Ibrahimovic to mark his first start in the Frosinone jersey with a goal, drilling low into the near bottom corner from 12 yards.
However, Toro were furious at the controversial build-up, specifically Luca Mazzitelli who both seemed to barge Gvida Gineitis and also knock the ball on with the outside of his arm, but VAR did not consider them worthy of an on-field review.
Toro threatened with Duvan Zapata and Antonio Sanabria headers, before David Zima rose to nod in a Gineitis corner and equalise.
Moments later the Granata almost got a second in similar fashion, but Michele Cerofolini made the save on Sanabria’s header.
Sanabria also drilled wide from distance and Ivan Ilic saw his goal ruled offside on 75 minutes from a Duvan Zapata long ball.
Pietro Pellegri’s angled drive was beaten away by Cerofolini, but stoppages were wide open with saves at either end on Walid Cheddira and Nikola Vlasic.
Neither side wanted to go into extra time, but they were forced into it and this proved rather eventful, including an injury to substitute Pellegri.
Torino were awarded a penalty for Caleb Okoli’s challenge on Demba Seck, but it was revoked following an on-field VAR review.
Frosinone took the lead on the counter-attack with Kaio Jorge sending Reinier clear on goal. It was the Real Madrid-owned forward’s second goal for the club.
The Granata were unlucky again, as Yann Karamoh’s strike thumped the crossbar and Raoul Bellanova’s attempt was beaten away, but Kaio Jorge also brought a big save out of Luca Gemello.
