Genoa scraped a 2-2 draw in stoppages against Spezia, but were eventually knocked out of the Coppa Italia on penalties.

Mattia Perin immediately needed three great saves to deny Porcari and Sansovini, so was pleased to see Genoa go in front with Alberto Gilardino.

Sansovini did eventually get his equaliser with a curling left-foot shot and Ebagua turned the tie around completely.

Spezia thought they were through, but deep into stoppages Francesco Lodi converted a penalty to force extra time.

Konate and Ebagua went close, while Lodi’s screamer from distance smacked against the upright, so at 2-2 after 120 minutes the tie went to penalties. Andrea Bertolacci and Antonio Floro Flores hit the woodwork, while Lodi’s effort was saved.

Spezia proved the more accurate from the spot and took a huge scalp on their way through to the Fourth Round, 5-4 on penalties.
