The Sea Horses are in the relegation battle along with Parma and beat them twice this season.

The financial crisis at the Stadio Tardini means tomorrow’s Parma-Udinese game has been called off because the club cannot pay for stewards or security.

“Parma-Udinese will not be played. Why? They don’t even have the money to open the stadium! How is that possible??” wrote Cesena President Lugaresi on Facebook.

“It is insulting for all of professional football in Serie A! We will all pay the consequences of this.

“We fight hard every day to keep the books balanced. We give up on new signings who would’ve helped strengthen the squad. We sell players to pay the bills.

“We manage to pay wages earlier than the deadlines. We fill the stadium in Cesena and have the ninth biggest average gate in Italy.

“Parma’s wage bill for players and staff is around €3m per month. At Cesena it is less than €1m! A third of that!

“Parma had four or five Presidents in two months (I lost count), but Cesena only five since 1940!

“The season has clearly been affected by this anomalous situation at Parma. I hope the FIGC, the Lega Serie A and Disciplinary Commission keep a close eye on this, because we will not stop fighting! Forza Cesena!!”

If Parma are unable to complete the campaign, all results earned so far will stand, whereas future opponents will be automatically given a 3-0 victory.
