Cagliari owner Massimo Cellino has apparently revealed via text message that he has ‘practically sold’ the club.

The 57-year-old businessman, who looks set to complete a takeover of English Championship outfit Leeds United, reportedly announced the news from Miami in the early hours of this morning, via a text message that the Corriere dello Sport have picked up.

“22 years dreaming the impossible dream,” Cellino’s SMS read. “I am a poor romantic, I am sorry if I haven’t succeeded in my aims.

“I have practically sold Cagliari, the formalities will be completed tomorrow when the lawyers of the buyers provide assurances to the league’s governing bodies. They are good people.”

The identity of the owners is still unclear, with Corriere dello Sport reporting that it is likely to be one of either the Qatar Foundation or an American organisation who specialise in stadium construction.
