Massimo Cellino’s appeal against the decision to block his takeover of Leeds United will be heard today.

The Cagliari chief was denied the chance to buy the English Championship side last week after being found guilty in an Italian court of failing to pay €388,500 of import tax on a yacht.

The businessman had agreed in February to buy 75 per cent of the Elland Road outfit from the Bahrain-based investment bank Gulf Finance House.

Lawyers representing the Isolani owner will argue against the Football League’s ruling, insisting that Cellino is innocent under Italian law until an appeal against the import tax ruling is finalised.

The hearing will be seen over by in independent QC.
