Edinson Cavani is confident that he can help write a new chapter in the history of Serie A outfit Napoli.

Despite attracting the transfer interest of some of Europe’s top clubs, he’s eager to win silverware with the Azzurri.

“At first we didn’t have the mentality of a great side, but we’ve found that now,” the striker told the Gazzetta dello Sport.

“We are already a big team and we can aim for all types of objectives here,” he continued.

“Thinking that we are following in the footsteps of Diego Maradona and Antonio Careca is something very beautiful – it's the greatest satisfaction.”

Cavani, who scored a brace against Manchester City in the Champions League on Tuesday, was asked about his future as new links with City and Paris Saint-Germain emerged this week.

“It's an honour to know there are many important Coaches who are interested in me,” he continued. “But, for the moment, Napoli are best for me.

“The fans here show me affection and make me feel important. I am enjoying the moment and want to win with this shirt.

“I feel ready for anything,” he added. “I'm not afraid of anything and I don't fear comparisons.

“Who knows, tomorrow there could also be an option other than Napoli, but we will have to wait and see what happens in the future.”

The Uruguayan joined Napoli in 2010 from Palermo and he’s contracted to the Stadio San Paolo outfit until June 2016.
