Hugo Campagnaro thinks Inter’s absence from European competition this season could be an advantage.

The Nerazzurri failed to qualify for the Champions League or the Europa League after finishing in ninth last term.

“There are clubs who have a bit more than us when you look at the squads, but they will have European commitments to deal with,” the summer signing from Napoli told the Corriere dello Sport.

“That will cause physical and mental fatigue which could be felt. We, on the other hand, can just concentrate on the championship.”

Inter have begun well under new boss Walter Mazzarri, a man who the defender has worked with at Sampdoria and Napoli in the past.

After conceding 57 goals last term, the Beneamata have started the season with clean sheets against Genoa and Catania.

“We’re not offering our opponents that many shots either,” Campagnaro added. “That is an important signal.

“It’s true that this is my seventh season with him and I know what movements he is expecting, but Andrea Ranocchia and Juan Jesus are also aware now of what is required on the field of play.”

Inter’s progress is set to be tested in Week 3 when they entertain Juventus when Serie A resumes after the international break.

“I don’t think the Bianconeri will be scared of us, but they will certainly respect us. They are very strong, but we are well organised. It will be a battle.”
