Inter legend Beppe Bergomi has underlined how important the signing of Hugo Campagnaro was this summer.

The defender was netted by the Nerazzurri on a free transfer after his contract with Napoli expired in June.

“The Argentine has given security to everyone,” the 1982 World Cup winner commented. “He understands how to play in a Walter Mazzarri defence.

“He’s a perfect element for this team.”

The 33-year-old knows all about the three-man defence needs of new boss Mazzarri given their past together.

This is Campagnaro’s seventh consecutive season working with the tactician after their spells at Sampdoria and Napoli.

Campagnaro has played in all three of the club’s League games so far this term.

After conceding 57 goals in the last Serie A campaign, the San Siro giants have allowed just one in three ties so far.
