Among other big matches involving Italian football, Cakir officiated the 2015 Champions League Final between Juventus and Barcelona.
Above all, he was in charge when Italy beat Spain 2-0 in the Euro 2016 Round of 16 showdown.

The 40-year-old from Istanbul has already officiated three senior Italy games, including a 2-0 Euro 2012 victory over the Republic of Ireland and a 1-1 friendly draw in the Netherlands in February 2013.
As for Sweden, Cakir oversaw two wins and one defeat, 2-1 to Ukraine at Euro 2012.
The victories were a 3-2 Euro qualifier against the Netherlands in October 2011 and 2-1 success over Austria in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.
