Cagliari have insisted Italian international centre-back Davide Astori will not be sold during the summer.

The 26-year-old is being paired with a possible move to Milan by some in the Italian media on Tuesday.

But Cagliari director Francesco Marroccu has told the L'Unione Sarda that the stopper is going nowhere.

“Davide Astori is a point of reference for the future,” the official noted. “He is a player who we would not consider selling.

“Cagliari will start again from him. He represents us on the world stage and he is a certainty for us.

“And we have not forgotten when he rejected a move to Spartak Moscow last year in order to remain here.

“That gesture made us proud.”

Astori, the winner of four caps for Italy, is a former youth team player at Milan who joined the Rossoblu in 2008.
