Brazil media officer Rodrigo Paiva received a three-game ban and fine for attacking Chile striker Mauricio Pinilla.

The clash occurred at half-time during the ill-tempered Round of 16 match in Belo Horizonte on June 28.

Cagliari forward Pinilla, who at the time was yet to come off the bench, accused Paiva of punching him in the face during an altercation.

Paiva confessed to a ‘slap,’ but it was reported his real target was one of Chile’s assistant managers.

FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee imposed a three-match ban and fined Paiva £6,500, so he won’t be involved in the rest of the World Cup.

The disciplinary code demands “at least two matches for assaulting (elbowing, punching, kicking etc) an opponent or a person other than a match official.”
