The Spaniard has impressed with his form this term for La Viola and the club have been increasingly reported since the turn of the year as intent on improving and extending his contract.

Reports today are that 29-year-old will be handed a one-year extension to take him through to June 2017, whilst there will also be an option in place for a further year on from that.

Meanwhile, the midfielder’s salary is set to rise significantly, from a current annual rate of €1.4m to €2.2m.

Meanwhile, it is also believed that any renewal signed will almost certainly contain a buyout clause, perceived in reports as a sign of ‘gratitude’ from the club towards the player.

After Valero commits, which could be in the coming days, sporting director Daniele Prade is seen as ready to focus renewal efforts towards Gonzalo Rodriguez and then other members of the first team squad.
