Borja Valero believes he’s “a leader off the pitch for Inter”, even if “I’m a footballer, not a politician”.

The Nerazzurri finally won last weekend after two months, and the Spaniard believes he can help the younger players get through difficult periods.

“I’ve experienced worse periods than this,” Valero reminded ANSA.

“Maybe I’m at an age where I can feel more calm, and I try to transmit that confidence and serenity to my teammates, especially the younger ones.

“Maybe I’m at an age where I can feel more calm, and I try to transmit that confidence and serenity to my teammates, especially the younger ones.

“I think I’m a leader off the pitch, and of course I want to be a protagonist on the pitch – I’m a footballer, not a politician.”

Borja was also asked about Coach Luciano Spalletti, who wanted to bring him to Roma too.

“He’s not different to what you see outside. He’s like everyone, he’s impulsive, he has a warm-blooded temperament and he’s got us back to doing well.

“A reality like Inter needs a strong and special character.”
