Sky Sport Italia claim that Italy international Leonardo Bonucci is ‘furious’ after he was dropped for the Champions League showdown with Napoli and wants talks with Union Berlin.

The centre-back made the move to Germany precisely because they are in Europe’s most prestigious club competition and he expected to get more regular playing time with an eye on being a part of Italy’s squad for the EURO 2024 tournament.

When Union Berlin welcomed Champions of Italy Napoli, it was meant to be the perfect game for Bonucci to show his experience of dealing with these opponents.

Instead, he was left on the bench and Sky Sport Italia report the decision infuriated the 36-year-old.

He was benched for the 3-0 defeat to VfB Stuttgart at the weekend and had naturally assumed that was so he would be well rested for the Napoli game.

Bonucci is now said to be seeking a confrontation with coach Urs Fischer and the Union Berlin directors, as he is ready to leave if he is not considered a starting defender.

Making changes is somewhat understandable considering Union Berlin have lost their last eight competitive matches.
