Zvonimir Boban feels Financial Fair Play means “Inter and Milan will struggle to get back on track”  unless there is reform.

The measures were introduced by UEFA to try and curb reckless spending in football, but many have complained that the rules only entrench the current most powerful clubs.

“If there are no corrections to the Financial Fair Play system, Inter and Milan will struggle to get back on track,” Boban told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“That’s true for them, and obviously for all the clubs which aspire to compete for the highest objectives.

“I can’t say enough about the work that’s been done over the past 10 years to secure football accounts, but the rules to impose a balanced budget can’t prevent entrepreneurs from making new investments.

“It seems to me that’s the case for clubs like Milan and Inter.”

Boban was also asked about Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival in Italy.

“Ronaldo shows how a champion can express his qualities for a long time thanks to professionalism and commitment to training.

“I’m certain that talent always makes the difference though.”

A hot topic in Italy recently has been racism, after Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly was subjected to monkey chants in the game at Inter.

“Incidents like this are bad for football,” Boban acknowledged.

“I know it’s difficult to suspend a delicate match like Inter-Napoli, but maybe that was the time to do it.

“Football can’t solve these problems on its own though, it needs the help of the authorities and for long-term measures to be put in place.”
