Inter legend Giuseppe Bergomi says Paolo Maldini should have taken Milan’s job offer – “I would have accepted”.
The Rossoneri hero was offered the role of technical director by the prospective Chinese owners, but was unconvinced and turned it down.
“I disagree with my friend Paolo Maldini,” Bergomi told Il Giorno.
“In his place I’d have accepted the offer of the new Milan owners. Someone like him would be teaching everyone after a month at the club!
“Take [Francesco] Totti, take away all the useless talk and he’s still doing good things for Roma.
“And Alessandro Del Piero? Just go and talk to Bianconeri fans, they dream of Alex being President or something similar. And they’re right to.
“If the Nerazzurri’s Chinese owners make me the offer that the Rossoneri’s Chinese made to Maldini, well I’ll accept straight away.”
Bergomi made 756 appearances for Inter, while Maldini represented Milan 902 times, Del Piero turned out for Juventus on 705 occasions and Totti has 764 Roma appearances to his name and counting.
Bergomi was also asked about the Scudetto race, and believes it’ll come down to Juventus or Napoli.
“Juve can only lose it, but Napoli shouldn’t be underestimated. We’re just at the start, but I have to say I don’t have much faith in Roma, much less in Milan.
“As for Inter, [Frank] De Boer hasn’t disappointed me, but I don’t really understand putting [Stevan] Jovetic in instead of Gabigol.
“Inter are still under construction though, so we’ll see.”
