Ahead of a crucial game for relegation favourites Cesena away to Fiorentina, Coach Mario Beretta insists that the Emilia-Romagna outfit have not given up.

The Cavallucci Marini sit in 20th position and with 14 games to try to make up the current 10-point deficit to safety.

Despite having not ventured out of the relegation zone at all this season and now on to their third Coach of the season in Beretta, the new arrival does not see a side without fight.

“We have certainly not given up, we are thinking about things on a game by game basis,” suggested the 52-year-old tactician on Friday.

“Of course, morale is that of a team in last place in the table, but more than ever we are convinced we can have a say in the relegation battle.”

The weekend sees Cesena take their search for a first away win in the League since mid-December to Florence, as Fiorentina play host to the strugglers.

“Fiorentina are a strong team, with many different champions, but are going through a difficult time right now.

“Sunday they will have a full stadium, a fiery atmosphere, with fans who will try to drag the team up after three successive defeats.

“We need a positive result so as to tackle with great determination the two upcoming games with Catania and Siena.”
