Rafa Benitez has reflected on his side’s chances of silverware this term, and mused that when at their best, Napoli ‘can beat anyone’.

The Partenopei are much changed this term under the Spaniard’s direction, currently sit third in Serie A whilst they are set to begin their Coppa Italia campaign this midweek against Atalanta.

“They are all difficult games,” Benitez has reflected today in an interview with Radio Kiss Kiss.

“We need everything, the fans and we must concentrate in order to win.

“We can win against anyone with maximum concentration. But we saw at the weekend that Chievo made it very difficult for Inter.

“I agree with Gonzalo [Higuain] when he says we are a new team but if we can win something this season all the better.

“If not, we’ll continue to work hard to build something important for the future.”

Victory on Sunday at Verona saw I Ciucciarelli consolidate third place in the Serie A table, two points shy of second placed Roma and 10 behind leaders Juventus, but Benitez was reserved when asked about his side’s chances of challenging for the Scudetto.

“The boys have done a great job, showing attitude and character. It was a tough away game but they were excellent

“Juve are a great team and they are having an amazing season, just like Roma. Roma are more dangerous seeing as they only play one game a week. It’s important for us to just continue to play well.”

The Campania side have been linked with a host of potential transfer targets heading into this month’s window, but Benitez refused to name names when discussing possible new arrivals.

“We’re looking at the market but I’m not going to mention names,” he said. “Riccardo Bigon and I are working 100 per cent, the January transfer market is not an easy one but we’ll work as hard as we can until the end of it.”

Benitez also confirmed that star player Marek Hamsik has returned to training, as well as giving an update on other recent injury casualties.

“Yes, he is training with us, we decided not to risk him in Verona. But he played in a game in training with the rest of the group and he’s training well. Marek is ready.”

“[Pepe] Reina is training with the group but I’m pleased with the work Rafael is doing.

“I spoke to [Valon] Behrami earlier, we will decide what to do with him, we could use orthotics [customised insoles]. We’re still analysing it.”

“Zuniga is on his way back. Mesto is a speedy footballer and he will need more time.”
